Aruba UTV tours with kids

Kids love a UTV tour: the noise, the dust, the bumps and the animals at the start. The rules differ a lot between operators, though, so check the age limits before you promise anyone a ride.

Every UTV tour listed here requires the driver to be 18 or over with a valid license, so children always ride as passengers. The question is from what age.

Below are the limits from each listing, plus tips from parents who have done it.

The quick answer

The 2 to 5 seater UTV tour takes passengers from age 4, and a 4 or 5-seater keeps the family together for the same per-person price. The ATV tour starts at 6. Some small-group operators need children to be 8 for the back seat and 12 for the front. Nobody under 18 can drive.

What is the minimum age for a UTV tour in Aruba?

It depends on the operator: from 4 on the 2 to 5 seater tour, 6 on the ATV tour, and 8 for the back seat on Fofoti's small-group tour.

Can teenagers drive the UTV?

No. On every listing here, drivers must be at least 18 and hold a valid driver's license.

Teens ride as passengers. If your 18-year-old has a license and wants to drive, book a separate 2-seater for them.

Which seat setup works best for families?

One 4 or 5-seater on the per-person tour, with a parent driving and the kids beside and behind.

Every seat costs the same on that tour, so there is no penalty for a bigger vehicle. The ride is bumpy, so check the operator's age rules before deciding who sits where.

Is a UTV tour safe for kids?

It is supervised and slow by road standards, but rough: kids are belted into a roll-caged vehicle, and guides keep the convoy together.

Guests describe guides who checked everyone stayed together and safe, and one couple in their early seventies called it safe and fun. Still, the ride is bumpy and dusty, and swim spots on the north coast have strong currents, so keep children close at every stop.

Can kids swim at the Natural Pool?

Yes, on a jeep or horseback tour and when the sea is calm, but the climb down is rocky and the water can be rough.

One parent said their 10-year-old got nervous in rough water until the guides helped them out. Water shoes are a must, and children enter Arikok National Park free.

What do kids enjoy most?

Feeding the animals at Philip's Animal Garden at the start, the dust and bumps, and the swim.

The animal garden is a rescue sanctuary, and the feeding bag is included on the per-person tour. Pack snacks: the 2 to 5 seater tour lists water but no meal.

What is a good alternative for younger children?

A snorkel catamaran on the calm west coast: children ride from age 4 at a reduced price, and there is a slide off the boat.

For a land day with toddlers, the Natural Pool jeep safari takes children from 2. See UTV vs ATV vs jeep for the trade-offs.
